According to a CBC story published Wednesday, Minister of the Economy Bill Boyd asked a government-owned corporation to buy a piece of land for two to three times more than the appraised value.
The deal, which concerned a 204-acre plot of land on the west side of Regina, netted a $5-million profit for the company that sold it. The government later sold it as a loss.
Saskatchewan's NDP called for an investigation into the complicated string of transactions. NDP deputy leader Trent Wotherspoon told The Regina Leader-Post "the whole deal stinks."
Boyd approached the Conflict of Interest Commissioner who ruled in Boyd's favour, reported Global News. Now, Boyd is threatening legal action against the CBC's investigative journalist who broke the story.
Premier Brad Wall said in a statement that he supports Boyd, and would support any action he chooses to take against the CBC.
